HOW TO NAVIGATE IN A CHINESE BREAD SHOP // LML favorite, self-service, choosing which treats, pay cashier

Ready to get breakfast on my own for the very first time, I walked into a local bread shop and found myself wondering, “What’s the HK Chinese Bread Shop protocol?”

Do I wait for someone?
Should I help myself?

I kinda just stood there and hoped someone else would come in so I could follow their lead. However, should you find yourself staring at these cases filled with deliciousness (yeah I totally made that up- spell check didn’t even correct it) and asking yourself the same question… don’t panic and don’t wait, just follow these three steps.

Step 1: Grab a tray and a pair of tongs.

Step 2: Open the cases and take what you want.

Step 3: Bring it to the cashier and pay.

My personal favorite?

“Bo-lo-bau” which is a plain bun with a sweet, semi-crunchy topping. $3 HKD
