Alex Hitz is a broadway producer, restaurateur, chef, cookbook author and Southern Gentleman from Atlanta, Georgia.
After meeting him at the James Beard Foundation for his “My Beverly Hills Kitchen Cookbook” reading, I learned that Alex (among many talents) is very detailed-oriented and ahead of the food trends:
- At age 2, Alex requested Virginia Ham sandwiches on Pepperidge Farm White Bread (Sliced Very Thin) with Mayonaise & handfuls of Ruffles Potato Chips. #smartkid
- Following that request, he also shared that the linen on his birthday table matched his bib and napkin. #southernhospitality
- Another interesting fact? Alex traveled all over Europe with his family at a young age and had the opportunity to dine at some of the most exquisite restaurants in the world. #envious
- And last but not least, while traveling in France with his family, he told us that he tried tea in sorbet (back in the 1980’s) and kindly reminded us that no one had thought of that back then. #intriguing
And to be perfectly honest, I loved how he knew about food trends well before others started to catch on in the USA… so I decided to him ask him a question during the Q&A. “Do you foresee an upcoming food trend in the USA?”
Alex paused, and then he answered, “I believe people are going to bring back quality dinner parties in their homes. And as someone who has hosted many dinner parties, I recommend giving the people what they really want: COMFORT FOOD! And when you’re creating the menu, don’t be pretentious… they can diet the rest of the week!”
As I looked around the room, all of us were nodding our heads up and down.
He had spoke the truth.
