Do you remember when your primary school hosted Book Fairs?

I certainly do. Mama Ma would give me a sealed white envelope with $10.00 inside to spend on “books”.

And by books, I mean plastic slap bracelets, tie-dye book socks, pencils, and an actual book to ensure a cash allowance for future book sales.

So when I was invited to attend a Bon Appetit Magazine book sale, I literally sprinted into their conference room (with grace, of course…and a budget larger than $10.00).

The sale was scheduled from 2:00-3:30pm but all of the books were sold by 2:27pm. I expected stacks and stacks of books, but the interns told me that they only put out 5 boxes for the entire sale. Damnit.

I was hoping to score a copy of Family Table by Michael Romano, The James Beard Foundation Book by Susan UngaroThe Art of Fermentation by Sandor Ellis Katz and Wicked Good Burgers with photography by my friend Ken Goodman, however those were no where in sight.

Instead I arrived just in time to purchase the last of the remaining books, and scored some pretty interesting reads like The Latin Road Home by Jose Garces, The New Persian Kitchen by Louisa Shafia and a hidden copy (stashed behind the podium) of Yes Chef by Marcus Samuelsson.



I purchased 9 books in total and all proceeds were donated to Edible Schoolyard!
